| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to recognize the 50th anniversary |
4 |
| of the Norridge Park District; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, On September 25, 1955, at the last regular meeting |
6 |
| of the Norridge Improvement Party Club, a motion was passed by |
7 |
| its members to take action on a proposed Park District for the |
8 |
| Village of Norridge; elected in December of 1955, the first |
9 |
| commissioners were William Penrod, Steward Tookey, Neal Holtz, |
10 |
| James Wilson, and Raymond Selman; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, In June of 1956, the Park District agreed to lease |
12 |
| a piece of land located at the corner of Canfield and Wilson |
13 |
| Avenue known as "Norridge Manor Field" for a period of one |
14 |
| year; two ball fields and an ice skating rink were erected |
15 |
| there; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, In December of 1956, the Park District acquired |
17 |
| 20.3 acres of property from the Shapiro brothers at a purchase |
18 |
| price of $6,000 per acre; the land was named "Norridge |
19 |
| Community Park" and development began immediately with the |
20 |
| building of two ball fields and an ice skating rink; football |
21 |
| goal posts were added and the first organized recreational |
22 |
| programming began in September of 1957 with the opening of the |
23 |
| football season; and
|

| WHEREAS, Throughout the years, a fieldhouse and playground |
25 |
| were built, a pool was added, and a warming house with |
26 |
| washrooms was constructed in the center of the Park District; |

| and
|

| WHEREAS, Expansion of recreational services continued to |
29 |
| grow as the population and service area increased; in the |
30 |
| 1980s, the Park District Board began a 25 year planning process |
