| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to recognize the 150th |
4 |
| anniversary of the city of Windsor; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Windsor was established May 16, 1856; the city's |
6 |
| birth was the result of the Terre Haute and Alton Railroad |
7 |
| building a line through central Illinois; established in the |
8 |
| middle of an already bustling agriculture section, the city |
9 |
| soon became populated and businesses became numerous; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, As of 1883, the city had grown to be home to eight |
11 |
| large dry good and grocery establishments, three groceries, |
12 |
| three restaurants, two hardware stores, three drug stores, one |
13 |
| bakery, three millinery shops, two jewelry establishments, two |
14 |
| harness shops, two printing offices, one music store, two |
15 |
| livery stables, one undertaker's shop, three blacksmith shops, |
16 |
| two wagon shops, two mills, one shoe shop, two barber shops, |
17 |
| one meat market, one hotel, one lumber yard, one large grain |
18 |
| elevator, one hay press, and two tile factories; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, There were four churches and a large brick school, |
20 |
| where six teachers were employed; the societies present in the |
21 |
| city were the Odd Fellows, the Masons, the Knights of Pythias, |
22 |
| the Knights of Honor, the Good Templars, the Woman's Christian |
23 |
| Temperance Union, the Horticultural and Floricultural society, |
24 |
| and the Missionary society; there were three resident |
25 |
| ministers, five doctors, two dentists, and one lawyer; and
|
26 |
| WHEREAS, Today's city council consists of Mayor Dennis |
27 |
| Hostetter and commissioners Terry Kuhl, Jim Trimble, Todd |
28 |
| Shafer, and Cary Cole; Linda Voris has served as city clerk for |
29 |
| 25 years; therefore, be it
