| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
3 |
| State of Illinois learned with deep sadness of the death of |
4 |
| Starkesia Marie Reed and Siretha La'Jasmine White, both of |
5 |
| Chicago; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Starkesia was 14 years old and a student at Harper |
7 |
| High School, where she was part of the JROTC program; she died |
8 |
| on March 3, 2006, when a bullet fired from an assault rifle |
9 |
| missed its target and struck her while she was in the living |
10 |
| room of her home; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, Siretha, known affectionately as "Nugget", was a |
12 |
| fourth grade honor student at Vernon
Johns Community Academy in |
13 |
| Chicago; she died on March 11, 2006, when a stray bullet, meant |
14 |
| for a man on the porch of the house where she was celebrating |
15 |
| her birthday, missed its mark; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, The tragic passing of these precious children |
17 |
| could have been prevented with more stringent gun laws in |
18 |
| place, especially a ban on assault weapons; therefore, be it
|
19 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
20 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
21 |
| we mourn the passing of Starkesia Marie Reed and Siretha |
22 |
| La'Jasmine White, and we call for an end to such senseless |
23 |
| violence in all of our communities; and be it further
|
24 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
25 |
| presented to the families of Starkesia and Siretha as an |
26 |
| expression of our condolences.
