HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Dorain
4 O. Fletcher of Marion on Wednesday, April 12, 2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on February 24, 1929, in Christman to
6 Russell and Alice (Burk) Fletcher; he married Marlene Springer
7 on April 11, 1981, in Marion; she preceded him in death on
8 October 8, 1998; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Mr. Fletcher valiantly served his country as a
10 member of the U.S. Army, retiring with the rank of Brigadier
11 General; he often spoke of his time in the service and working
12 with President Lyndon B. Johnson and billionaires H. Ross Perot
13 and Sam Walton; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Upon his retirement from the U.S. Army, Mr.
15 Fletcher went to work for the City of Marion as the Director of
16 Economic Development, a position he held for 18 years; he had
17 the utmost respect for the community and the respect of many
18 local businesses; and
 
19     WHEREAS, He was instrumental in local development projects
20 in the city of Marion and was committed to enhancing the
21 quality of life for those who lived in Marion; and
 
22     WHEREAS, Mr. Fletcher was known for his strength of
23 conviction and strong sense of loyalty; and
 
24     WHEREAS, He was a member of the Marion Eagles, the
25 Williamson County Shrine Club, the Masonic Lodge, and the Order
26 of the White Shrine; he was a member of Cedar Grove United
27 Methodist Church in Marion; and
 
28     WHEREAS, The passing of Dorain O. Fletcher has been deeply

1 felt by many, especially his granddaughters, Sabrina and
2 husband Aaron Cantrell and Holly McGlacken; his
3 great-grandchild, Patrick Cantrell; and his dear friend and
4 pastor, John and Wanda Clark; in addition to his wife, he was
5 preceded in death by his parents; therefore, be it
 
6     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8 we mourn the passing of Dorain O. Fletcher, and we extend our
9 deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew and
10 loved him; and be it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to his family as an expression of our sincerest
13 condolences.
