| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
2 |
| WHEREAS, Violence against women is a community issue, a |
3 |
| public health issue, and a human rights issue; and
|
4 |
| WHEREAS, Violence against women includes domestic and |
5 |
| sexual violence, stalking, and other forms of abuse; this |
6 |
| violence seeps through communities impacting law enforcement, |
7 |
| court systems, and health care professionals; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, Violence against women is present in schools and |
9 |
| workplaces resulting in absenteeism and physical and mental |
10 |
| illnesses; the annual cost of lost productivity due to domestic |
11 |
| violence is estimated at $727.8 million with over 7.9 million |
12 |
| paid workdays lost per year; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, This violence ripples through families causing |
14 |
| the cycle of violence to continue from one generation to the |
15 |
| next; one in three women worldwide will be beaten, raped, |
16 |
| coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in her lifetime, and |
17 |
| evidence shows that most female homicide deaths are the result |
18 |
| of an assault by their intimate partner; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, The cycle can be broken; Illinois residents should |
20 |
| learn to recognize violence against women, learn how to stop it |
21 |
| and how to prevent it, and then educate others; therefore, be |
22 |
| it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
24 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
25 |
| we encourage the citizens of Illinois to "Stop the Violence |
26 |
| Against Women" by learning to recognize it, stop it, take |
27 |
| action to prevent it, and educate others to do the same; and be |
28 |
| it further
