| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
2 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. John Jay of Mahomet was recently named the |
3 |
| 2006 News Gazette Farm Leader of the Year; and
|
4 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Jay has lived in western Champaign County all |
5 |
| of his life; he has spent much of his life managing farmland |
6 |
| for others; and
|
7 |
| WHEREAS, He attended Champaign schools and graduated from |
8 |
| Central High School, where he took vocational agriculture |
9 |
| classes and participated in a parliamentary procedures team; |
10 |
| and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, Throughout the years, Mr. Jay has grown wheat, |
12 |
| corn, and soybeans; for a while, he raised Berkshire gilts, a |
13 |
| breed of hogs; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, As he farmed full-time, he gradually became |
15 |
| involved in local government, first as Mahomet Township clerk; |
16 |
| eventually he was elected as a trustee and supervisor, a |
17 |
| position he still holds today; he has spent 38 years working |
18 |
| for the township; he also served on the board of the Champaign |
19 |
| County Soil and Water Conservation District and has spent 35 |
20 |
| years with the Cornbelt Fire Protection District; and
|
21 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Jay is retired, but still manages some |
22 |
| farmland; he helps his son, Bill Jay, who is also a farmer, |
23 |
| during harvest and works full-time as fire chief; he represents |
24 |
| District 1 on the Champaign County Board, and he is the Mahomet |
25 |
| Township supervisor; he and his wife, Sunny, live in Mahomet; |
26 |
| therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |

| we congratulate Mr. John Jay of Mahomet on being named the 2006 |
