| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
3 |
| State of Illinois were saddened to learn of the untimely death |
4 |
| of Duranthony Evans of Aurora, which occurred on October 31, |
5 |
| 2004, when he was killed in a random drive-by shooting in |
6 |
| Aurora; and
|
7 |
| WHEREAS, He was born on August 16, 1970, to Dorothy Thomas; |
8 |
| he graduated from Aurora East High School in 1988; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Evans was an Elder/Reverend at The Greater |
10 |
| Mount Olive Church of God in Christ; he was active in |
11 |
| ministering to the congregation and in the service of the youth |
12 |
| program; he was a Youth Supervisor at IYC-St. Charles for six |
13 |
| years, where he was very determined in his efforts to do the |
14 |
| Lord's work; he was the officer that had an open ear and an |
15 |
| even greater heart for young people that were having trouble |
16 |
| coping with the problems that they were experiencing; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Evans' care and diligence for his fellow |
18 |
| officers gave many a co-worker peace and laughter; he knew when |
19 |
| to offer advice and when to make the stress of the place drop |
20 |
| by cracking a smile or a joke; his work ethic and his talent to |
21 |
| help other people were the threads holding the seams of the |
22 |
| facility together; and
|
23 |
| WHEREAS, Duranthony Evans never asked for recognition or |
24 |
| praise; if a person was down, he told them to get on his back |
25 |
| and he was going to see them through; he is loved and missed by |
26 |
| all; and
|
27 |
| WHEREAS, His younger brother, Carl Thomas, a famous R&B |
28 |
| singer, started The Duranthony Evans Foundation to fight the |
29 |
| spread of anger, fear, and violence between people of different |
30 |
| races and to stop the spread of "Urban Terrorism" in the United |
