| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The COMIT Drug Task Force marks its 10th |
3 |
| anniversary after more than 500 drug investigations; COMIT |
4 |
| originally began as the County Municipal Investigative Unit and |
5 |
| has evolved into one of the most successful drug task forces in |
6 |
| the region; and
|
7 |
| WHEREAS, When the COMIT Drug Task Force came into existence |
8 |
| in Franklin County a decade ago, it was unknown how long it |
9 |
| would last; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, COMIT has expanded to include communities in |
11 |
| Hamilton, Wayne, and Williamson counties and representatives |
12 |
| from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, the Drug |
13 |
| Enforcement Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and |
14 |
| the Director of State Police; and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, COMIT initially focused on marijuana and cocaine; |
16 |
| more recently, due to the rise of methamphetamine use in the |
17 |
| region, the task force has focused its efforts on combating |
18 |
| that drug; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, Much of COMIT's labor is donated and much funding |
20 |
| comes from the sale of seized vehicles and property and fines |
21 |
| assessed by courts; and
|
22 |
| WHEREAS, The work of the Task Force has resulted in at |
23 |
| least 320 convictions in federal and State courts; therefore, |
24 |
| be it
|
25 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
26 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
27 |
| we congratulate the COMIT Drug Task Force on the occasion of |
28 |
| its 10th anniversary and on its successes and efforts to fight |
29 |
| illegal drug use and trade; and be it further
