HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of
4 Nathaniel B. Snow on Thursday, December 29, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on November 27, 1925, in Pushmataha,
6 Oklahoma, to Andrew and Stella Snow; he worked in cotton fields
7 as a boy to help support his family while attending school; he
8 spent his high school years in Seiling, Oklahoma, where he was
9 an excellent student and played the sousaphone in the marching
10 band; after high school, he served two years in the Merchant
11 Marines at the end of World War II; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Upon returning from his tour of duty with the
13 Merchant Marines he attended Wayne State University in Detroit,
14 Michigan, where he earned a bachelor's degree and the
15 University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he earned
16 a master's degree in economics; he was the only member of his
17 family to attend college; and
 
18     WHEREAS, After college he settled in Chicago, where he
19 lived for 47 years and worked as a data processing consultant
20 and computer technologist; in Chicago he became active in
21 politics and had a particular passion for social justice, civil
22 rights, and civil liberties; and
 
23     WHEREAS, He met his future wife, Renee Rosen, during a
24 political campaign in 1964; they married on November 25, 1967,
25 settling in the Lakeview area of Chicago, where they continued
26 to work together to support political candidates who shared
27 their progressive political beliefs; and
 
28     WHEREAS, Mr. Snow was a person of great intellectual
29 curiosity, uncompromising integrity, and deep conviction; he
30 was a voracious reader and avid student his entire life; and

1     WHEREAS, He passed away on December 29, 2005, at Seasons
2 Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Chicago after a long and
3 painful struggle against Alzheimer's disease; and
 
4     WHEREAS, The passing of Nathaniel B. Snow has been deeply
5 felt by many, including his wife, Renee; his sister, Cathryn
6 Snow; his many in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews, including
7 Elaine Murphy, Sandy Brooks, Robin Smith, Les Murphy, and Donna
8 Wittert; and his many neighbors and friends at his apartment
9 building, "The Darien"; therefore, be it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12 we mourn the passing of Nathaniel B. Snow, and we extend our
13 deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew and
14 loved him; and be it further
 
15     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to his family as an expression of our sincerest
17 condolences.
