| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, It is the privilege of this Body to recognize a |
3 |
| significant milestone in the history of an organization that |
4 |
| has contributed greatly to the welfare of the people of our |
5 |
| State; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, The Peotone Fire Department was founded in the |
7 |
| year 1881 and will celebrate its 125th anniversary this year; |
8 |
| and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, In 1881, the Village of Peotone purchased its |
10 |
| first fire engine and the department's first drill was held on |
11 |
| April 15 that same year under the command of Captain John |
12 |
| Fedde; the department bought a Model T fire truck in 1924, its |
13 |
| first pumper in 1935, and the Peotone Volunteer Fire Department |
14 |
| Auxiliary was formed in 1953; and |
15 |
| WHEREAS, In 1975, the department had the first operational |
16 |
| paramedics in Will County and in May of 1978, the Peotone Fire |
17 |
| Protection District was established; and |
18 |
| WHEREAS, On August 14, 1978, the Peotone Fire Protection |
19 |
| District accepted the Peotone Fire Department as the |
20 |
| organization to protect the residents of the district from |
21 |
| fire, promote fire protection and prevention throughout the |
22 |
| district, and provide emergency medical services to the |
23 |
| residents of the district; and |
24 |
| WHEREAS, The Peotone Firefighter Pension Fund was created |
25 |
| in 1984, and in 1992, ground was broken for a new fire station; |
26 |
| the new station was dedicated in memory of Trustee Gerald |
27 |
| Borchardt in 1993; and |
28 |
| WHEREAS, The Department received a grant in 1999 to equip a |
29 |
| hazardous materials squad and in 2002, the organization joined |
