| WHEREAS, It is the privilege of this Body to recognize |
3 |
| significant milestones in the history of organizations in this |
4 |
| State; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, The Antioch American Legion Post No. 748 was |
6 |
| granted a charter on February 25, 1926, and will celebrate its |
7 |
| 80th anniversary at a dinner on Thursday, February 9, 2006; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, The charter members of Post No. 748 were John L. |
9 |
| Horan, Otto S. Klass, Dr. G. W. Jensen, Chris Laursen, Clyde |
10 |
| Fields, H. D. Regan, Russell Mead, Ellis Story, Charles Atwood, |
11 |
| Arthur Maplethorpe, Paul Chase, Charles McCorkle, S.M. |
12 |
| Wallace, Raymond Webb, and Adolph Pesat; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, The purposes that the American Legion stands for |
14 |
| are: to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States |
15 |
| of America; to maintain law and order; to foster and perpetuate |
16 |
| a one hundred percent Americanism; to preserve the memories and |
17 |
| incidents of our associations in the Great Wars; to inculcate a |
18 |
| sense of individual obligation to the community, state, and |
19 |
| nation; to combat the autocracy of both the classes and the |
20 |
| masses; to make right the master of might; to promote peace and |
21 |
| goodwill on earth; to safeguard and transmit to posterity the |
22 |
| principles of justice, freedom, and democracy; and to |
23 |
| consecrate and sanctify their comradeship by their devotion to |
24 |
| mutual helpfulness; and
|
25 |
| WHEREAS, The American Legion was chartered by Congress in |
26 |
| 1919 as a patriotic, mutual-help, war-time veterans |
27 |
| organization; a community-service organization which now |
28 |
| numbers nearly 3,000,000, both men and women, in nearly 15,000 |
29 |
| American Legion Posts worldwide; these Posts are organized into |
30 |
| 55 Departments, one each for the 50 states, the District of |
31 |
| Columbia, Puerto Rico, France, Mexico, and the Philippines; |
