| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
3 |
| State of Illinois recently learned of the death of Ann Bailey |
4 |
| Prichard of Glen Ellyn on Monday, January 9, 2006; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Prichard was born on August 28, 1900, in Glen |
6 |
| Ellyn to Eugene Bailey and Inastelle Gauch; she had one brother |
7 |
| and four stepbrothers and sisters; and |
8 |
| WHEREAS, She left school early in order to selflessly care |
9 |
| for her father and brothers and sisters when her mother passed |
10 |
| away; she did this throughout her schooling years while still |
11 |
| finding time to learn music; she was an accomplished pianist by |
12 |
| the age of 14; and |
13 |
| WHEREAS, Upon graduating from Glenbard High School in 1918, |
14 |
| she went to work for the Glen Ellyn Post Office, where she |
15 |
| aspired to break the gender barrier and become a female railway |
16 |
| clerk; here she met her future husband, Harold Prichard; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Prichard was a lifelong resident and the |
18 |
| longest living person of Glen Ellyn at the time of her passing; |
19 |
| she was born and lived at 567 Park Boulevard in her grandmother |
20 |
| Gauch's home; three years later, she moved to 636 Park |
21 |
| Boulevard into a house that her father built; and |
22 |
| WHEREAS, In 1923, she moved to 546 Forest Ave. with her |
23 |
| husband, Harold Prichard, where she lived until 1978; together, |
24 |
| they had five children, Merrill, Harold, Marjorie, Marylyn, and |
25 |
| Donald, and her family always came first; she raised the |
26 |
| children with the help of her aunt after her dear husband |
27 |
| passed away in 1941; her life was her family, and she would |
28 |
| bake and sell pies in order to earn money to pay for their |
29 |
| dance and piano lessons; she also ensured that higher education |
30 |
| was readily available to her children, and each of them |

| graduated from the University of Illinois or Northern Illinois |
2 |
| University with degrees; and
|
3 |
| WHEREAS, She worked as an office manager for the Milton |
4 |
| Township Assessors Office, retiring after 43 years of service; |
5 |
| she was a longtime member of First Congregational Church of |
6 |
| Glen Ellyn, where she remained active until 2003; her |
7 |
| participation only ceased because she moved; she had a passion |
8 |
| for reading romance novels and traveled extensively throughout |
9 |
| the United States, Europe, and the Caribbean; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, In 1978, she moved to a condominium at 445 Park |
11 |
| Boulevard, where she lived until she was 102 years old; she |
12 |
| then moved to Sunset Assisted Living Center, where she will |
13 |
| always be remembered for her sense of humor; she was an avid |
14 |
| Cubs fan and never missed a televised game; and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Prichard and her friends, Mildred Patch |
16 |
| Mulligan and Helen Clippinger were the subject of a documentary |
17 |
| to be produced by actress Julia Roberts; the Many Marys and |
18 |
| Marthas group, or M.M.M.s, dated back to 1917 and once helped |
19 |
| to build a tennis court; the documentary, titled "Old Friends", |
20 |
| was to be co-produced and narrated by Ms. Roberts; and |
21 |
| WHEREAS, Throughout her long life, Ann Bailey Prichard |
22 |
| touched many hearts, especially her children, Merrill E. |
23 |
| (Bonnie) Prichard, Harold C. Jr. (Suzanne) Prichard, Marjorie |
24 |
| P. Cole, Marylyn P. Conrad, and Donald E. (Diane) Prichard; her |
25 |
| grandchildren, Lynn Prichard Goedde, James Francis Conrad, |
26 |
| David Andrew Prichard, Gary Owen Prichard, Mark Allen Prichard, |
27 |
| Jeffrey Lee Conrad, Karen Conrad Koestner, Gordon Howard Cole, |
28 |
| Ann Prichard Considine, Sue Prichard Hodges, Lee Merrill |
29 |
| Prichard, Barbara Cole Mashburn, Jay Bailey Prichard, and Brian |
30 |
| Canfield Prichard; her great-grandchildren, Christopher Lee |

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |

| we celebrate the life of Ann Prichard of Glen Ellyn, who passed |
13 |
| away at the age of 105, and we extend our deepest sympathy to |
14 |
| her family and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
|
15 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
16 |
| presented to her family as an expression of our condolences.
