| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, Those who pursue the education of our students are |
3 |
| worthy of the highest praise; at the end of the 2005-2006 |
4 |
| school year, Prospect High School will see the end of an era |
5 |
| with the retirement of Mr. David Morrison, Director of Bands |
6 |
| for 28 years, with 33 years in education; and
|
7 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Morrison received his formal training in music |
8 |
| at the University of Illinois, where he received a B.S. in |
9 |
| music education in 1973 and a master's degree in 1977; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, He began his teaching career in 1973 as Director |
11 |
| of Bands at East Richland High School in Olney, where he served |
12 |
| until 1977; since 1977, he has been the Director of Bands at |
13 |
| Prospect High School in Mount Prospect; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, He has received many honors for his nationally |
15 |
| recognized band program, including a Citation of Excellence |
16 |
| from the National Band Association and election to the Phi Beta |
17 |
| Mu National Band Director's Honorary Fraternity; he is a |
18 |
| two-time winner of the Outstanding Contributions to Education |
19 |
| Award at Prospect High School, and he received the Outstanding |
20 |
| Chicagoland Music Educator Award in 1992 and the Shining Star |
21 |
| Award from the Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce in 1995; he |
22 |
| was nominated for the Golden Apple Award in 2001, was Illinois |
23 |
| Teacher of the Year in 2003, and was inducted into the Phi Beta |
24 |
| Mu Bandmaster's Hall of Fame at Northwestern University in |
25 |
| 2005; and
|

| WHEREAS, Under his direction, the Prospect bands have been |
27 |
| exceptionally successful; both the Symphonic Band and the |
28 |
| Marching Blue Knights have won national recognition multiple |
29 |
| times; the Marching Blue Knights have participated in many |
30 |
| prestigious parades including the Macy's Thanksgiving Day |
31 |
| Parade, the Fiesta Bowl, the Citrus Bowl and Magic Kingdom, the |
