| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the |
3 |
| members of the House of Representatives of the State of |
4 |
| Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Charlie B. |
5 |
| Ragland, Sr., of Memphis, Tennessee, on Monday, January 9, |
6 |
| 2006; and
|
7 |
| WHEREAS, He graduated from Barrets Chapel High School, |
8 |
| which he attended from kindergarten through twelfth grade; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, He valiantly served our country as a member of the |
10 |
| U.S. Army for three years; he married Aretta Westbrook Ragland |
11 |
| in 1948; together, they shared 58 years and parented four sons |
12 |
| and four daughters; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Ragland was a lifelong church leader at Oak |
14 |
| Spring Baptist Church in Arlington, Tennessee; he was retired |
15 |
| from E.I. DuPont Chemical Co.; and |
16 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Ragland's son, Alan V. Ragland, is the Senior |
17 |
| Pastor of Third Baptist Church of Chicago, located in the |
18 |
| legislative district of State Representative Monique D. Davis; |
19 |
| therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
21 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
22 |
| we mourn the passing of Mr. Charlie B. Ragland, Sr., and we |
23 |
| extend our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all who |
24 |
| knew and loved him; and be it further
|
25 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
26 |
| presented to his family as an expression of our sincerest |
27 |
| condolences.
