| HOUSE RESOLUTION 770

| WHEREAS, It is the tendency of many schools across the |
3 |
| State to separate twins, triplets, or other multiple siblings |
4 |
| into different classrooms upon entering the school system; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, The separation of multiples when entering the |
6 |
| school environment can be detrimental to the support system |
7 |
| between multiples; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, Each multiple is an individual; therefore, |
9 |
| separation in school is not necessary to develop their |
10 |
| individuality; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, Separation of multiples in school can cause |
12 |
| hardship to the parents who have to deal with different class |
13 |
| schedules and activities; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, The fact that the policy of separating multiples |
15 |
| has been followed by many schools does not mean that it is the |
16 |
| better or the correct policy; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, Each set of multiples is different; while some |
18 |
| multiples will do better when placed together, others do better |
19 |
| when separated; therefore, placement of multiples should be |
20 |
| determined on a case-by-case basis with priority given to the |
21 |
| preference of the parents; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
23 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
24 |
| we recommend that all school districts in the State develop a |
25 |
| policy concerning the separation of multiples that considers |
26 |
| each set of multiples on a case-by-case basis and takes into |
27 |
| consideration the preference of the parents and the best |
28 |
| interest of the children; and be it further
