2 | WHEREAS, The boys soccer team of Schlarman High School in | ||||||
3 | Danville steadily advanced through the 2005 season, winning | ||||||
4 | week after week; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Danville is proud of these Schlarman Hilltoppers | ||||||
6 | and all that the soccer team achieved this season; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, The 2005 Schlarman soccer team consisted of nine | ||||||
8 | seniors, seven juniors, four sophomores, and two freshmen; | ||||||
9 | playing forward were: Dane DeBruyn, Lance Dillon, Michael | ||||||
10 | Kasper, Jared Lazzell, Casey Smutz, and Carly Tamalunis; | ||||||
11 | manning the midfield positions were: Nathan Jenkins, Chris | ||||||
12 | Lewellyn, Matt Pellegrini, Nick Pellegrini, Arturo Plaza, | ||||||
13 | William Plaza, Whitney Showers, and Jacob Trimble; taking the | ||||||
14 | field as defenders were: Patrick Coon, Pete Goodwin, Scott | ||||||
15 | Hardy, Cameron Hazel, Tommy McKenna, Scott Showers, and Tyler | ||||||
16 | Thurman; the goalkeeper was Josh Hetzel; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, The coaching staff for this year's Hilltoppers | ||||||
18 | included head coach Ed Barney and assistant coaches, Sam Farren | ||||||
19 | and Sam Farren, Jr; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, The team enjoyed great fan support, home games | ||||||
21 | were crowded with spirited backers, and away games included | ||||||
22 | vigorous cheering from loyal supporters; and
| ||||||
23 | WHEREAS, The Illinois High School Association Boys Soccer | ||||||
24 | Class A Tournament began with 111 teams from high schools | ||||||
25 | across Illinois; and
| ||||||
26 | WHEREAS, On October 28-29, 2005, the IHSA held the final | ||||||
27 | round of the Boys Soccer Class A tournament at North Central | ||||||
28 | College in Naperville, Illinois; and |

1 | WHEREAS, When the Hilltoppers entered the finals that | ||||||
2 | weekend, they had won all of their matches except one; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, At the tournament, the team was gratified to look | ||||||
4 | up in the stands and see that so many hometown fans followed | ||||||
5 | them to Naperville; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, In the tournament finals, the Hilltoppers | ||||||
7 | achieved fourth place in Class A by beating | ||||||
8 | Roanoke-Benson-Eureka 1-0 in the quarter-finals, before | ||||||
9 | falling to Quincy Notre Dame and Wheaton Academy; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, The next day, October 30, 2005, the teams' | ||||||
11 | families and classmates, along with community boosters, lined a | ||||||
12 | parade route in Danville and cheered the players and coaches as | ||||||
13 | they waved from the Danville fire truck that led the parade; | ||||||
14 | and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, At the celebration gathering at Schlarman High | ||||||
16 | School after the parade, the coaches and team members were | ||||||
17 | introduced and spoke to the crowd; additionally, Schlarman High | ||||||
18 | School Principal, Dr. Raymond Broderick, Schlarman Athletic | ||||||
19 | Director, Jason Woodworth, and Danville Mayor, Scott | ||||||
20 | Eisenhauer, lauded the soccer players for their team | ||||||
21 | accomplishment; and
| ||||||
22 | WHEREAS, Coach Barney, justifiably proud of his team's | ||||||
23 | accomplishments, noted that this year's team "set a high | ||||||
24 | standard for the school"; and
| ||||||
25 | WHEREAS, The Schlarman Hilltoppers concluded their | ||||||
26 | record-breaking season with a total of 22 wins and only 3 | ||||||
27 | losses; therefore, be it
| ||||||
28 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
29 | NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |

1 | we heartily congratulate the Schlarman High School boys soccer | ||||||
2 | team on their excellent season and their fourth place finish in | ||||||
3 | the IHSA Boys Soccer Class A Tournament; and be it further
| ||||||
4 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
5 | presented to each team member, each coach, and to the athletic | ||||||
6 | director and the principal, as an expression of our high | ||||||
7 | esteem.
