HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The boys soccer team of Schlarman High School in Danville steadily advanced through the 2005 season, winning week after week; and

WHEREAS, Danville is proud of these Schlarman Hilltoppers and all that the soccer team achieved this season; and

WHEREAS, The 2005 Schlarman soccer team consisted of nine seniors, seven juniors, four sophomores, and two freshmen; playing forward were: Dane DeBruyn, Lance Dillon, Michael Kasper, Jared Lazzell, Casey Smutz, and Carly Tamalunis; manning the midfield positions were: Nathan Jenkins, Chris Lewellyn, Matt Pellegrini, Nick Pellegrini, Arturo Plaza, William Plaza, Whitney Showers, and Jacob Trimble; taking the field as defenders were: Patrick Coon, Pete Goodwin, Scott Hardy, Cameron Hazel, Tommy McKenna, Scott Showers, and Tyler Thurman; the goalkeeper was Josh Hetzel; and

WHEREAS, The coaching staff for this year's Hilltoppers included head coach Ed Barney and assistant coaches, Sam Farren and Sam Farren, Jr; and

WHEREAS, The team enjoyed great fan support, home games were crowded with spirited backers, and away games included vigorous cheering from loyal supporters; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois High School Association Boys Soccer Class A Tournament began with 111 teams from high schools across Illinois; and

WHEREAS, On October 28-29, 2005, the IHSA held the final round of the Boys Soccer Class A tournament at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois; and

WHEREAS, When the Hilltoppers entered the finals that weekend, they had won all of their matches except one; and

WHEREAS, At the tournament, the team was gratified to look up in the stands and see that so many hometown fans followed them to Naperville; and

WHEREAS, In the tournament finals, the Hilltoppers achieved fourth place in Class A by beating Roanoke-Benson-Eureka 1-0 in the quarter-finals, before falling to Quincy Notre Dame and Wheaton Academy; and

WHEREAS, The next day, October 30, 2005, the teams' families and classmates, along with community boosters, lined a parade route in Danville and cheered the players and coaches as they waved from the Danville fire truck that led the parade; and

WHEREAS, At the celebration gathering at Schlarman High School after the parade, the coaches and team members were introduced and spoke to the crowd; additionally, Schlarman High School Principal, Dr. Raymond Broderick, Schlarman Athletic Director, Jason Woodworth, and Danville Mayor, Scott Eisenhauer, lauded the soccer players for their team accomplishment; and

WHEREAS, Coach Barney, justifiably proud of his team's accomplishments, noted that this year's team "set a high standard for the school"; and

WHEREAS, The Schlarman Hilltoppers concluded their record-breaking season with a total of 22 wins and only 3 losses; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we heartily congratulate the Schlarman High School boys soccer team on their excellent season and their fourth place finish in the IHSA Boys Soccer Class A Tournament; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to each team member, each coach, and to the athletic director and the principal, as an expression of our high esteem.
