HOUSE RESOLUTION


 
2
    WHEREAS, When the 2005 season concluded, the girls 
3
volleyball team of Breese Mater Dei High School, the Lady 
4
Knights, again earned their way into the upper echelon of 
5
Illinois girls volleyball teams; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, The Lady Knights' accomplishments in volleyball 
7
were achieved by hard work, in practices and in games, by team 
8
members from each class and in each playing position; 
9
specifically, the squad included: two seniors, Amanda Rickhoff 
10
(MH) and Whitney Voss (L), the team captains; three juniors, 
11
Larissa Huels (S), Ellen Huelsmann (L), and Becca Lamb (OH); 
12
seven sophomores, Katie Becker (OH), Megan Gebke (L), Jessica 
13
Hemann (MH), Erin Kasson (OH), Jamie Loepker (OH), Kayla 
14
Schroeder (OH), and Lindsay Winkeler (S); and three freshman, 
15
Cortney Crocker (L), Morgan Dall (MH), and Laura Thole (OH); 
16
and

 
17
    WHEREAS, In his twenty-ninth year as the Breese Mater Dei 
18
girls volleyball coach, Fred Rakers notched another winning 
19
season in 2005 with a record of 35 wins and only 5 loses, 
20
thereby improving his overall coaching record at Breese Mater 
21
Dei to 846 wins, 157 losses, and 5 ties, for an overall winning 
22
percentage of .839 in the 1008 games of the Lady Knights that 
23
he coached; and

 
24
    WHEREAS, In guiding the team to another excellent season, 
25
Coach Rakers was joined on the bench by Assistant Coach Erin 
26
Kopec; and

 
27
    WHEREAS, Throughout the season, the Lady Knights were 
28
heartened, home and away, by support from their loyal fans; and

 
29
    WHEREAS, The Illinois High School Association's (IHSA) 
30
Class AA Girls Volleyball Tournament began with teams from 284

high schools across Illinois; and
 
2
    WHEREAS, The Lady Knights steadily advanced in the 
3
tournament and garnered a Regional title at Marion, a Sectional 
4
title at Salem, and a Super-Sectional title at O'Fallon; and
 
5
    WHEREAS, On November 11-12, 2005, the IHSA held the State 
6
Final Tournament in Class AA Girls Volleyball in the Redbird 
7
Arena at Illinois State University; and
 
8
    WHEREAS, In the quarterfinal round of the IHSA tournament, 
9
the Lady Knights
valiantly battled the Joliet Catholic Academy 
10
Angels for the right to advance to the semi-final round, but 
11
the Lady Knights, after outlasting Joliet Catholic Academy by a 
12
score of 27-25 in the first game, fell to the Angels in the 
13
next two games; and
 
14
    WHEREAS, The Mater Dei Lady Knights concluded another 
15
excellent season with a record of 35 wins and only 5 losses; 
16
therefore, be it

 
17
    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
18
NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
19
we congratulate the Lady Knights from Breese Mater Dei High 
20
School on their impressive volleyball season and participation 
21
in the quarter-final round of the IHSA Class AA Girls 
22
Volleyball Tournament; and be it further

 
23
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
24
presented to the           Lady Knights Head Coach Fred Rikers as an 
25
expression of our esteem.
