HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, On October 26th, 2005, the Chicago White Sox won
3 the 101st World Series of Major League Baseball in record
4 breaking fashion by defeating the Houston Astros by a score of
5 1-0; and
 
6     WHEREAS, The White Sox defeated the Houston Astros in the
7 second game of the World Series with a walk off home-run from
8 All-Star Scott Podsednik, who became the first player in major
9 league baseball history to hit a World Series walk-off home run
10 in a year that he hit zero regular season home runs; history
11 was again recorded as the third game of the series lasted 14
12 innings, constituting the longest game by time and innings in
13 World Series history, and ended after 5 hours and 41 minutes
14 with a game-winning home run by Geoff Blum on his first ever
15 World Series plate appearance, and the Chicago White Sox went
16 on to sweep the Houston Astros in the 2005 World Series four
17 games to none; and
 
18     WHEREAS, The White Sox tied the 1999 Yankees for the all
19 time greatest postseason record since the introduction of the 3
20 round playoff system by winning 11 games and losing 1; and
 
21     WHEREAS, Jermaine Dye was named the 40th World Series Most
22 Valuable Player for hitting .438 in the series and hitting the
23 game winning RBI in a decisive game four; and
 
24     WHEREAS, Mark Buehrle became only the 2nd pitcher in World
25 Series history to both win a game and pitch for a save in the
26 same World Series; and
 
27     WHEREAS, The 2005 Chicago White Sox, under second-year
28 coach and manager Ozzie Guillen, demonstrated the essence of
29 teamwork by winning 110 games and losing 64 in 2005, and the
30 Chicago White Sox have won sixteen of the last seventeen games;

2     WHEREAS, With 99 wins in the regular season the Chicago
3 White Sox became the regular season American League Central
4 Division champions and entered the post-season by defeating the
5 2004 MLB World Series Champions, the Boston Red Sox, sweeping
6 the Red Sox three games to none in the American League Division
7 Series, and then soundly defeated the Los Angeles Angels of
8 Anaheim four games to one to become the first Chicago White Sox
9 team in 46 years to reach the World Series, and finally, the
10 2005 Chicago White Sox swept the Houston Astros with four
11 straight wins to become the first Chicago White Sox team in 88
12 years and to become Major League Baseball's World Champions;
13 therefore, be it
 
14     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16 the 2005 Chicago White Sox be honored and applauded for their
17 accomplishments during the 2005 season, for their talent and
18 teamwork displayed on the field, for their excellence and
19 humility off the field, for the outstanding coaching staff
20 leading the team, and for the brilliant ownership and
21 management that crafted and built the 2005 Chicago White Sox;
22 and be it further
 
23     RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
24 presented to each member of the Chicago White Sox executive
25 board, to each member of management in the Chicago White Sox
26 organization, and to every player on the 2005 Chicago White Sox
27 team.
