| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The State of Illinois is enriched by its vibrant |
3 |
| local communities; and
|
4 |
| WHEREAS, Incorporated on October 24, 1880, the Village of |
5 |
| River Forest, Illinois is celebrating the 125th anniversary of |
6 |
| its founding; and
|
7 |
| WHEREAS, The Village of River Forest began in 1831 as a |
8 |
| sawmill just north of Lake Street on the east bank of the Des |
9 |
| Plaines River; the mill was, reportedly, the only one within 20 |
10 |
| miles of Chicago and was vital to the growth and settlement of |
11 |
| the River Forest community; and
|
12 |
| WHEREAS, Settlers were attracted by the fertile land, |
13 |
| forest, and river, that bordered the community; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, The arrival of the Galena and Chicago Union |
15 |
| Railroad in 1865 greatly impacted the growth and development of |
16 |
| the community; its regular service between Chicago and River |
17 |
| Forest brought many new residents to the community; and
|
18 |
| WHEREAS, The Village of River Forest continues to prosper, |
19 |
| being one of the most affluent suburbs in Cook County; most of |
20 |
| the community land is covered by residential buildings, |
21 |
| churches, and educational institutions; the village boasts a |
22 |
| rich architectural heritage and a citizenry that appreciates |
23 |
| both the preservation of that heritage and of the good schools |
24 |
| and life it has developed; therefore, be it
|
25 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
26 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
27 |
| we congratulate the Village of River Forest on the occasion of |
28 |
| the 125th anniversary of its founding; and be it further
|
