| WHEREAS, Mayor George Van Dusen of the Village of Skokie |
3 |
| has enjoyed a distinguished career as a public servant; he has |
4 |
| served as Mayor of the Village of Skokie since 1999; before |
5 |
| serving as Mayor, he served as a Village Trustee and as |
6 |
| Assistant Supervisor of Niles Township; he also served as |
7 |
| Legislative Assistant and Director of Suburban Operations for |
8 |
| U.S. Congressman Sidney R. Yates; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, Mayor Van Dusen has been a resident of Skokie for |
10 |
| more than 25 years; he is an active member of his community and |
11 |
| is involved with a multitude of community organizations, |
12 |
| including the United Way of Skokie Valley, Temple Judea Mizpah, |
13 |
| Skokie Indians Little League, and the Highland School PTA; he |
14 |
| is also a member of the adjunct faculty at Oakton Community |
15 |
| College, where he teaches American and European history and |
16 |
| American government; and |
17 |
| WHEREAS, Mayor Van Dusen is an active member of the |
18 |
| Northwest Municipal Conference, addressing the needs and |
19 |
| issues confronting the Village of Skokie and the northwest |
20 |
| region of the State; he serves as a member of both the |
21 |
| Conference's Executive and Legislative Committees and has |
22 |
| worked tirelessly on issues related to telecommunications, |
23 |
| E-911, tax increment financing, household hazardous waste |
24 |
| disposal, and transfer taxes; he serves as Chairman of the |
25 |
| Board of the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County and |
26 |
| worked to implement the Village of Skokie's comprehensive |
27 |
| recycling program, which has served as a model for many other |
28 |
| communities; he is also a member of the Executive Committee of |
29 |
| the Chicago Transportation Study and Co-Chair of the North |
30 |
| Shore Council of Mayors; and
|
31 |
| WHEREAS, Mayor Van Dusen has played a leading role in the |
32 |
| development of the Illinois Science and Technology Park, which |
