| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, Aurora Chief of Police William J. Lawler is |
3 |
| retiring from his position with the police force and has |
4 |
| accepted a position of director for the Suburban Law |
5 |
| Enforcement Academy; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Chief Lawler is a 26-year veteran of law |
7 |
| enforcement; prior to his career with the Aurora Police |
8 |
| Department, he served three years with the Kane County Sheriffs |
9 |
| Department; he was appointed as a Police Officer for the City |
10 |
| of Aurora on December 11, 1978; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, During his career, Chief Lawler has worked in most |
12 |
| units and divisions within the department, including Patrol, |
13 |
| Crime Prevention, Investigations, Support Services, and Gang |
14 |
| Intervention (now the Special Operations Group); he was a |
15 |
| member of the department's Special Response Team and the Honor |
16 |
| Guard; he served honorably in all ranks within the police |
17 |
| department; he was promoted to Sergeant on April 25, 1990; to |
18 |
| Lieutenant on July 10, 1993; and to Commander on December 21, |
19 |
| 1996; and
|
20 |
| WHEREAS, William J. Lawler was appointed as Aurora's first |
21 |
| Deputy Chief of Police on January 26, 2000; his appointment as |
22 |
| Chief of Police of the Aurora Police Department was effective |
23 |
| July 20, 2002; and
|
24 |
| WHEREAS, He is a graduate of West Aurora High School and |
25 |
| holds a bachelor's degree in law enforcement administration |
26 |
| from Western Illinois University and a master's degree in |
27 |
| criminal justice from Aurora University; he lives in Aurora |
28 |
| with his wife, Joanne, and daughter, Cathy; therefore, be it
|
