| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, Fern Gregg of Goreville was presented with a |
3 |
| Governor's Unique Achievement Award on Wednesday, October 5, |
4 |
| 2005, in Springfield; she was nominated for the award by the |
5 |
| Egyptian Area Agency on Aging; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Ms. Gregg started her new endeavor as a dedicated |
7 |
| Red Cross volunteer in 1998 when she was 78 years old; she is |
8 |
| now age 83, still working tirelessly for the Red Cross and |
9 |
| assisting the people around her; before starting with the Red |
10 |
| Cross, she worked for 18 years as an office manager for the |
11 |
| Southern Baptist Student Center and dormitory on the SIUC |
12 |
| College campus; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, She is not a stranger to hard work and still has |
14 |
| more energy than anyone can imagine; since becoming a Red Cross |
15 |
| volunteer, she has served not only the communities in the 14 |
16 |
| counties of southern Illinois, but also in disaster situations |
17 |
| around the country, including at Ground Zero after September |
18 |
| 11, 2001, and in Alabama, Louisiana, Minnesota, and Tennessee; |
19 |
| and
|
20 |
| WHEREAS, Senior adults who have suffered a disaster often |
21 |
| will not seek the help they need because they feel the younger |
22 |
| families are in more need of the assistance offered; Ms. Gregg |
23 |
| serves as a mentor for these seniors and lovingly encourages |
24 |
| them to seek help; she is well-respected by her peers and |
25 |
| colleagues alike; and
|
26 |
| WHEREAS, Her strong belief in community is shared at |
27 |
| various health fairs and speaking engagements; she holds down |
28 |
| the Red Cross office when the manager and other key leadership |
29 |
| must be away and helps out with day-to-day operations; she also |
30 |
| volunteers as head of the library in her church and is very |
31 |
| committed to helping both in her church and community; |
