| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
3 |
| State of Illinois take great pride in and express gratitude to |
4 |
| those citizens who assume great personal risk to protect the |
5 |
| lives and well-being of other citizens; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, On December 24, 2004, Deputy Jason Brown came upon |
7 |
| a traffic accident while on his way home to Blue Mound; a sport |
8 |
| utility vehicle had left the highway and hit an embankment, |
9 |
| killing one passenger and leaving another trapped inside; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, As fire flared in the engine compartment, Deputy |
11 |
| Brown and another passenger pulled John Gehrken of Decatur from |
12 |
| the rear seat through a broken window; moments later, the |
13 |
| entire vehicle was engulfed in flames; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, For his heroic efforts on the scene, he was |
15 |
| selected as one of 13 recipients of the Law Enforcement Medal |
16 |
| of Honor; the medal is bestowed on officers who have |
17 |
| "distinguished themselves by gallantry and intrepidity at the |
18 |
| risk of their lives above and beyond the call of duty"; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, Deputy Brown has worked at the Macon County |
20 |
| Sheriff's Office for several years; he was one of several |
21 |
| officers laid off when the county came on hard times, paid his |
22 |
| own way through the Illinois State Police Academy, and was |
23 |
| hired as soon as he graduated; he is known for his keen |
24 |
| investigation skills and his sense for finding people; |
25 |
| therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
27 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
28 |
| we commend and applaud Deputy Jason Brown for his brave service |
29 |
| to Macon County, and we congratulate him on being a recipient |
30 |
| of the Law Enforcement Medal of Honor; and be it further
