| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |

| Representatives learned with sadness of the death of Rubertha |
4 |
| "Bert" Rivers on August 27, 2005; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Rivers was the second oldest of six daughters |
6 |
| reared by Henry and Lovie Lewis; she and her family left Terry, |
7 |
| Mississippi, in 1920 to come to Chicago; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, She married Morris Rivers on November 25, 1938, |
9 |
| and they had two daughters; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, She became a lifelong member of Christ Temple |
11 |
| Cathedral on Chicago's South Side; over the years, she was a |
12 |
| member of W.A.C.C.'s, the Cathedral Choir, and Pastor's Aide; |
13 |
| and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Rivers was very proud of her unique talent as |
15 |
| a millinery artist; church services and special events were |
16 |
| perfect venues for her to wear her latest hat creations; she |
17 |
| also enjoyed admiring the beauty of birds and the creativity |
18 |
| that poetry embraced; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, Her family, friends, and many others appreciated |
20 |
| her beautiful smile, love for life, and encouraging words of |
21 |
| support; and
|
22 |
| WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris; |
23 |
| her daughter, Sharon; and her sisters, Christine, Gladys, and |
24 |
| Marcelene; and
|
25 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Rubertha Rivers is felt by all who |
26 |
| knew and loved her, especially her sisters, Margaret Brown and |
27 |
| Geraldine Byrd; her daughter, Chandra Walls (Charles); her |
28 |
| grandson, Charles Walls; her nephews, William Hester, Tracy |
