| WHEREAS, Kerry Sheridan was elected Fire Chief of the Troy |
3 |
| Township Volunteer Fire Department in 1960 and has diligently |
4 |
| served Troy Township for 50 years, 45 years as Fire Chief; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, In 1955, Troy Township was a beachfront area with |
6 |
| summer cottages, farmland, and 800 residents; it now has the |
7 |
| Village of Shorewood, many new subdivisions, 18,000 residents, |
8 |
| and access to two major interstates, I-55 and I-80; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, The Fire Department was formed in 1955 and Fire |
10 |
| Chief Kerry Sheridan is one of its original members; the Troy |
11 |
| Fire Protection District was formed in 1963; and
|
12 |
| WHEREAS, The Fire Department started with 40 volunteers and |
13 |
| 10 sets of bunker gear; the Fire Protection District now has 50 |
14 |
| volunteers and 18 full-time ambulance/firefighters, each |
15 |
| having their own set of gear, pager, and airpak; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, The Town Hall, located on Seil Road, was moved to |
17 |
| Jefferson Street and garage doors were added to house the fire |
18 |
| department equipment; the Fire Protection District is now |
19 |
| located at 107 West Jefferson and has five bays; a second |
20 |
| station is being built on Seil Road; and
|
21 |
| WHEREAS, In 1973, Chief Sheridan started one of the first |
22 |
| fire cadet programs in the State; he also organized an |
23 |
| Ambulance Service for recruiting and training new EMTs; the |
24 |
| Ambulance Service went into service in May of 1980; he was |
25 |
| president of the Des Plaines MABAS 15 Division and is still an |
26 |
| active member; and
|
27 |
| WHEREAS, The Troy Fire Protection District is one of the |
28 |
| best-trained volunteer districts in the State; Chief Sheridan |
29 |
| achieved all this while working full-time since 1955 for |
