| WHEREAS, The Village of Armington is celebrating its 150th |
3 |
| anniversary on September 17, 2005; and
|
4 |
| WHEREAS, The Armington Christian Church was built in 1829 |
5 |
| and celebrated its 175th anniversary in May of 2004; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Hezeciah Armington laid out the Village of |
7 |
| Armington on August 17, 1855; the Village's first settlers were |
8 |
| impressed with the luxuriant groves and rich soil in the area; |
9 |
| and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, On August 20, 1904, the Village was incorporated |
11 |
| and on September 30, 1904, the election of trustees was held; |
12 |
| the Village was quite the business town and was supported by |
13 |
| the wealthy farming community; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, The Village had the first school to have a |
15 |
| cafeteria and offer a hot lunch program, and its school |
16 |
| district was the first to have school buses; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, In 1969, the Village had the first EMTs to |
18 |
| transport victims to hospitals; the Village had a pig roast and |
19 |
| raised enough money in one day to buy its first rescue truck; |
20 |
| and
|
21 |
| WHEREAS, The Village of Armington's notable people have |
22 |
| included Albert A. Oltmann, who was the Village water operator |
23 |
| for more than 38 years; out of 1,830 community water supplies |
24 |
| in Illinois, the Village of Armington was ranked number one in |
25 |
| optimal levels of fluoridation; Lynn Gaddis was named Illinois |
26 |
| Teacher of the Year; Judge John Turner was an Appellate Judge, |
27 |
| State Representative, and Logan County Judge; Andy Davis was |
28 |
| the founder of the Cave House; and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Medberry |

| attracted many visitors to their Medberry's Gardens, which |
