| WHEREAS, The Mount Greenwood Civic Association has chosen |
3 |
| Georgene Dansky as the 2005 Woman of the Year for her lifetime |
4 |
| of work in her community and for starting the "Postage for |
5 |
| Parcels" program that provides postage funds for care packages |
6 |
| being sent monthly to 67 local troops serving overseas; and
|
7 |
| WHEREAS, Georgene and her husband, residents of St. |
8 |
| Christina parish for 33 years, are the proud parents of four |
9 |
| daughters, the grandparents of 11, and the great grandparents |
10 |
| of one; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, Georgene has always been a dedicated and active |
12 |
| member of her community, volunteering for good causes and |
13 |
| serving as a Girl Scout Troop leader; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, When Georgene's grandson, Kevin Sullivan, started |
15 |
| serving in Afghanistan with the United States Army in May 2004, |
16 |
| he told her it was difficult to get some necessary personal |
17 |
| items such as toilet paper and shavers; and
|
18 |
| WHEREAS, Georgene then decided to send care packages filled |
19 |
| with anything from blankets to beef jerky every month to 10 |
20 |
| local men and women serving overseas; and
|
21 |
| WHEREAS, After a few months, members of the community |
22 |
| started helping, and canisters placed in local businesses |
23 |
| raised $500 a month to pay for the needed postage and package |
24 |
| contents; and
|
25 |
| WHEREAS, As the list of active men and women serving |
26 |
| overseas continued to grow to the current 67, Dansky and her |
27 |
| husband held a benefit in April 2005 that raised $30,000, which |
28 |
| is enough to sustain the "Postage for Parcels" program for 30 |
29 |
| more months; therefore, be it
