| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, Chicago will host Gay Games VII from July 15, |
| 3 |
| 2006, to July 22, 2006, as the Games return to North America |
| 4 |
| for the first time in 12 years; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Gay Games VII will feature 14,000 participants, |
| 6 |
| competition in 30 sports, world-class athletes and artists, |
| 7 |
| band and choral performances, nightly medal ceremonies, a |
| 8 |
| week-long arts festival, parties, and spectacular opening and |
| 9 |
| closing ceremonies showcasing entertainment, pageantry, and a |
| 10 |
| parade of participants from more than 70 countries; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, The Gay Games are open to anyone and have a |
| 12 |
| 25-year history; there are no qualifying events or minimum or |
| 13 |
| maximum requirements; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Gay Games VI was held in Sydney in 2002 and had an |
| 15 |
| $80 million impact on the local economy and 12,979 registered |
| 16 |
| participants; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 18 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 19 |
| we recognize the organizers, participants, and attendees of Gay |
| 20 |
| Games VII in Chicago, and we wish a successful event for all; |
| 21 |
| and be it further
|

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 23 |
| presented to Chicago Games, Inc., the Gay Games VII host |
| 24 |
| committee.
