| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The Mikva Challenge was founded in 1997 as a |
3 |
| tribute to Abner and Zoe Mikva who have fostered a dedication |
4 |
| to community service in thousands of young people across the |
5 |
| Chicago area; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, The essential philosophy of all Mikva Challenge |
7 |
| programs is that the best way for young people to learn civics |
8 |
| is to actively participate in the democratic process; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, The Mikva Youth Advocacy Club
involves 25 students |
10 |
| working to create action plans on issues of concern to them; |
11 |
| this year's focus is on education funding; students will |
12 |
| utilize media promotion for their issues as well as dialogue |
13 |
| with public officials on their issues; students will also |
14 |
| travel to Springfield to discuss their education |
15 |
| recommendations with lawmakers; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, Another initiative of the Mikva Challenge |
17 |
| involves helping high schools to form relationships with local |
18 |
| businesses in order to offer part-time jobs to students from |
19 |
| local high schools; the First Step program would require high |
20 |
| schools to implement work skill programs for all students to |
21 |
| prepare them for the workplace; therefore, be it
|
22 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
23 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
24 |
| we recognize the Mikva Youth Advocacy Club and the Mikva |
25 |
| Challenge for the outstanding work that young people are doing |
26 |
| through Club programs; and be it further
|
27 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
28 |
| presented to the Mikva Youth Advocacy Club as an expression of |
29 |
| our respect and esteem.
