| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The Slovak Catholic Sokol was founded by American |
3 |
| Catholics of Slovak ancestry in the City of Passaic and the |
4 |
| State of New Jersey on July 4, 1905; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, The Slovak Catholic Sokol is observing its one |
6 |
| hundredth anniversary during the year July 4, 2005 through July |
7 |
| 4, 2006; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, The Slovak Catholic Sokol, having the distinction |
9 |
| of being America's greatest Slovak gymnastic and athletic |
10 |
| fraternity, was organized for the purpose of benevolence and |
11 |
| physical fitness, which it continues to practice since its |
12 |
| inception, living up to the slogan of the organization, "A |
13 |
| Sound Mind in a Sound Body"; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, The Slovak Catholic Sokol, by contributing |
15 |
| generously to churches, schools, and educational and cultural |
16 |
| institutions, and by fostering education, brotherly love, and |
17 |
| loyalty to one's country, as citizens of the United States and |
18 |
| Canada, continues to act in keeping with its motto, "For God |
19 |
| and Country"; and
|
20 |
| WHEREAS, The first assembly of the Slovak Catholic Sokol, |
21 |
| Assembly 11, was organized in the City of Chicago and the State |
22 |
| of Illinois on July 8, 1906, at St. Michael the Archangel |
23 |
| Parish, at 48th Street and Damen Avenue, and numerous other |
24 |
| assemblies and wreaths were founded locally in Illinois, |
25 |
| Indiana, and Wisconsin during the following years; and
|
26 |
| WHEREAS, The assemblies and wreaths founded in Illinois, |
27 |
| Indiana, and Wisconsin were brought together under the umbrella |
28 |
| of Group Four, which was organized in the City of Chicago and |
29 |
| the State of Illinois on April 11, 1911, at St. Michael the |
30 |
| Archangel Parish; and
