| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
3 |
| State of Illinois wish to congratulate Dr. Gene E. Robinson for |
4 |
| being selected as a new member of the National Academy of |
5 |
| Sciences; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Robinson received a Bachelor of Science in |
7 |
| Life Sciences from Cornell University in 1977, a Master of |
8 |
| Science in Entomology from Cornell University in 1982, and a |
9 |
| Ph.D. in Entomology from Cornell University in 1986; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Robinson has been a Professor at the |
11 |
| University of Illinois since 1989; he is the Principal |
12 |
| Investigator as the G. William Arends Professor of Integrated |
13 |
| Biology, a Professor in the Entomology Department, the Director |
14 |
| of the Neuroscience Program, a Professor in the Department of |
15 |
| Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences, a Professor in |
16 |
| the Institute of Genomic Biology, a Professor in the Department |
17 |
| of Political Science, and he does research for the Beckman |
18 |
| Institute; his research at the University of Illinois is on the |
19 |
| mechanisms of behavior in social insects, primarily honey bees; |
20 |
| and
|
21 |
| WHEREAS, The National Academy of Sciences is a private |
22 |
| organization of scientists and engineers dedicated to the |
23 |
| furtherance of science and its use for the general welfare; the |
24 |
| Academy was established in 1863 by a congressional act of |
25 |
| incorporation signed by Abraham Lincoln that calls on the |
26 |
| Academy to act as an official adviser to the federal |
27 |
| government, upon request, in any matter of science or |
28 |
| technology; and
|
29 |
| WHEREAS, On May 3, 2005, the National Academy of Sciences |
30 |
| elected Dr. Robinson as one of 72 new members to the Academy in |
31 |
| recognition of his distinguished and continuing achievements |
