2 | WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the | ||||||
3 | State of Illinois learned with deep sadness of the death of our | ||||||
4 | former colleague, David B. McAfee of Palos Park, on February | ||||||
5 | 19, 2005; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, He was born on June 24, 1947, in Elmwood Park to | ||||||
7 | William David McAfee and Anna Anderson McAfee; he graduated | ||||||
8 | from Elmwood Park High School in 1965; he went on to receive a | ||||||
9 | B.A. in government in 1969 and an M.P.A. in 1972, both from | ||||||
10 | American University; he earned a J.D. in 1973 from Southern | ||||||
11 | Methodist University; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Mr. McAfee served as a Legislative Assistant to | ||||||
13 | Senator Wayne Morse, Oregon, and Congressman Roman Pucinski, | ||||||
14 | Chicago, in their Washington, D.C., offices, as well as | ||||||
15 | Congressman Sidney R. Yates in both his Washington, D.C., and | ||||||
16 | Chicago offices; he was a managing partner of Fredrickson & | ||||||
17 | Company, home builders and general contractors, and was also | ||||||
18 | President of Fredrickson Real Estate Improvement Company; he | ||||||
19 | was a former partner with the Chicago law firm of Clausen, | ||||||
20 | Miller, Gorman, Caffrey, & Witous; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, He was a public servant for many years; he was a | ||||||
22 | Village Trustee of Indian Head Park from 1983 to 1987 and | ||||||
23 | Village President from 1987 to 1991; during his tenure as | ||||||
24 | Village President, property taxes were reduced by more than | ||||||
25 | 32%; he was Vice President of the West Central Municipal | ||||||
26 | Conference for 1988-1989 and President for the 1989-1990 term; | ||||||
27 | he also served as Special Planning Coordinator for the National | ||||||
28 | Sheriff's Association and was a member of the Executive | ||||||
29 | Committee of the Metropolitan Economic Development Alliance; | ||||||
30 | and | ||||||
31 | WHEREAS, He was a Special Assistant Attorney General and |

1 | served in the General Assembly as State Representative from | ||||||
2 | 1991 to 1995 for the 47th Representative District; during his | ||||||
3 | term, he served on more committees and passed more bills than | ||||||
4 | any other freshman legislator; he served as Vice Chairperson of | ||||||
5 | the Insurance committee and served on the Health Care and Human | ||||||
6 | Services, Veterans Affairs, Consumer Protection, Judiciary, | ||||||
7 | Aging, and other committees; and | ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, While a member of the House of Representatives, | ||||||
9 | David McAfee championed legislation regarding the rights of | ||||||
10 | mobile home tenants and landlords; he led the fight to pass the | ||||||
11 | Whistleblower law to eliminate waste in State government; he | ||||||
12 | sponsored legislation placing a moratorium on construction of | ||||||
13 | new hazardous waste incinerators; and he passed a bill to have | ||||||
14 | senior citizens trained in child care work; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Since 1995, he worked as a real estate developer | ||||||
16 | for McAfee Investments LLC; he was a member of the Illinois, | ||||||
17 | Florida, Texas, and American Bar Associations and gave | ||||||
18 | presentations for the University of Wisconsin Professional | ||||||
19 | Development Program; he was an announcer at the annual Pet | ||||||
20 | Parade in LaGrange and the recipient of numerous civic and | ||||||
21 | legislative awards; therefore, be it
| ||||||
22 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
23 | NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
24 | we mourn the passing of David B. McAfee, who will always be | ||||||
25 | remembered for his good nature and the ever-present smile he | ||||||
26 | wore on his face, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his | ||||||
27 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
28 | further
| ||||||
29 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
30 | presented to his loved ones as an expression of our sadness for | ||||||
31 | this loss.
