| WHEREAS, Deanna Witzel of Danville, owner/operator of |
3 |
| Vermilion County's five McDonald's, was honored as one of |
4 |
| Illinois Jaycees' International Senate's 10 Outstanding Young |
5 |
| People of Illinois; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Witzel started working at a McDonald's in |
7 |
| 1982 in Peoria as a crew person, making $3.35 an hour; she |
8 |
| could not afford to go to college, so she worked her way up in |
9 |
| the McDonald's Corp.; in 1987, she transferred to Las Vegas as |
10 |
| an assistant manager where she met her husband Don; she was |
11 |
| involved with opening 18 new restaurants in Las Vegas and |
12 |
| supervised all nine McDonald's on the Las Vegas Strip; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, In 1999, the Witzels moved to Danville and |
14 |
| purchased the Vermilion County McDonald's and became a driving |
15 |
| force in support of their new community; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, When she has seen need in town, Mrs. Witzel has |
17 |
| secured funds from Ronald McDonald's Children's Charities; the |
18 |
| projects have included funding for two playgrounds in Danville |
19 |
| and Hoopeston designed to be fully accessible; as a Partner in |
20 |
| Education, Mr. and Mrs. Witzels' McDonald's stores have |
21 |
| provided tens of thousands of dollars in the last five years to |
22 |
| support academic programs, parent incentives, school |
23 |
| fundraising events, and special needs fulfillment; the |
24 |
| Witzels' McDonald's also have been major sponsors for many |
25 |
| community organizations and events; and
|
26 |
| WHEREAS, At a black-tie affair at the Hotel Pere Marquette |
27 |
| in Peoria, Mrs. Witzel received a silver medallion and a plaque |
28 |
| during a program that dramatized her achievements with a video |
29 |
| presentation; and
|

| WHEREAS, The award is presented annually based on |
