| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
3 |
| State of Illinois join with Representative Monique Davis in |
4 |
| congratulating Dr. Stanley Strom, Assistant Principal of |
5 |
| Morgan Park High School, on the occasion of his retirement |
6 |
| after 37 years of service with the Chicago Public Schools; and
|
7 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Strom began his career in January of 1968, |
8 |
| when he was hired by the Chicago Board of Education to teach |
9 |
| English and Spanish at Morgan Park High School; in 1971, he was |
10 |
| appointed counselor at Morgan Park High School; he was later |
11 |
| appointed director of curriculum and instruction for the |
12 |
| District 18 Chicago Board of Education; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, In 1974, he worked with Catholic pastors, the |
14 |
| Beverly Area Planning Association, Beverly Bank, and the |
15 |
| political community to establish the Morgan Park Catholic Youth |
16 |
| Ministry and served on its board of directors; from 1978 to |
17 |
| 2000, he served as a part time assistant professor of education |
18 |
| at National Louis University; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Strom was appointed coordinator of a drop out |
20 |
| prevention program at Bowen High School in 1981, and in 1982, |
21 |
| he returned to Morgan Park to begin the 7-12 Academic Center; |
22 |
| he was appointed assistant principal in charge of day to day |
23 |
| operations at Morgan Park High School in 1997; and
|
24 |
| WHEREAS, He was the 1985 recipient of the Aquin Guild |
25 |
| Catholic Educator of the Year Award, and he was named the |
26 |
| University of Illinois at Chicago Counselor of the Year in both |
27 |
| 1995 and 1996; he went on to receive the Assistant Principals |
28 |
| Association Distinguished Leadership Award in 2001; and
|
29 |
| WHEREAS, In 2003, he was ordained a Catholic Deacon for the |
30 |
| Archdiocese of Chicago and was appointed to serve at Holy Name |
