| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, Doug Miller of Indianola was one of four farmers |
3 |
| honored recently by Prairie Farmer magazine as Master Farmers; |
4 |
| and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, The farmers were honored for their farming |
6 |
| abilities and community service at a banquet in Springfield; |
7 |
| and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, Master Farmer candidates are nominated by |
9 |
| farmers, agribusiness professionals, and agricultural |
10 |
| extension specialists; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, In the spring of 1971, even though he was allergic |
12 |
| to hay and dust, Doug Miller started farming on 230 acres his |
13 |
| father, grandfather, and great-grandfather had farmed in |
14 |
| Indianola; several months later, his father passed away and he |
15 |
| became responsible for farming more than 1,000 acres; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, He now heads a 2,700-acre corn and soybean |
17 |
| operation, with farm storage for almost 300,000 bushels of |
18 |
| grain and several farmsteads containing buildings he renovated |
19 |
| himself; and
|
20 |
| WHEREAS, He wants to farm as long as his health permits and |
21 |
| then pass the farm on to his children; he and his wife, Vickie, |
22 |
| are considering putting together a farm advisory board, which |
23 |
| would include the family members, a bookkeeper, and an agent |
24 |
| with the University of Illinois Farm Business Farm Management |
25 |
| program; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |

| we congratulate Doug Miller on being named a
Master Farmer by |
