| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
2 |
| WHEREAS, Current members and guests gathered in fun and |
3 |
| fellowship on January 29, 2005, to celebrate the 150th |
4 |
| anniversary of Rockton United Methodist Church; all came to |
5 |
| relive the past and honor the present; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, In January of 1855, the church first opened its |
7 |
| doors to a new congregation; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, Charter members who founded the church were |
9 |
| honored in memory, and past and present programs, picnics, |
10 |
| trips, skits, and assisting others in need were all part of the |
11 |
| history that was relived during the anniversary celebration; |
12 |
| and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, During the evening skits, the actors donned |
14 |
| vintage clothing to make the past come to life; the narrators |
15 |
| ended the evening's history lesson by sharing the interesting |
16 |
| fact that the church was built at the same time that Madison |
17 |
| became a city, before the time of streets and houses; and
|
18 |
| WHEREAS, The celebration ended with the singing of |
19 |
| traditional favorite hymns; therefore, be it
|
20 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
21 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
22 |
| we heartily congratulate the members of Rockton United |
23 |
| Methodist Church on the occasion of their 150th anniversary |
24 |
| celebration and extend our best wishes for the church's |
25 |
| continued growth and service to the community; and be it |
26 |
| further
|

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
28 |
| presented to Rockton United Methodist Church as an expression |
29 |
| of our esteem.
