| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
3 |
| State of Illinois congratulate the Village of Hillside on its |
4 |
| 100th anniversary; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Established in 1905, Hillside is the "Hub of the |
6 |
| Western Suburbs"; being located near numerous transportation |
7 |
| and business opportunities, Hillside is a developing community |
8 |
| of over 8,100 residents; the Village prides itself on community |
9 |
| aesthetics and values and works to attract and maintain |
10 |
| businesses in the community; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, Hillside has been known as the town of Proviso, |
12 |
| taken after the name of Proviso Township, the township in which |
13 |
| it is located; in
1833,
Frank Covell purchased land to build |
14 |
| Hillside's first home; today, this land is known as the |
15 |
| landfill along Mannheim Road; in 1905,
Hillside became its own |
16 |
| municipality with its incorporation on December 6; John Wolf |
17 |
| was the first President of the Village, and 1919 saw the |
18 |
| dedication of the first village hall, built on the site of |
19 |
| today's village hall; and
|
20 |
| WHEREAS, Hillside was selected in the mid-1950s as the site |
21 |
| of the first large regional shopping center in the Chicago |
22 |
| suburban area; opened in 1956, the Hillside Shopping Center has |
23 |
| 67 stores, offering a variety of sales and services to the |
24 |
| surrounding area; the original Butterfield Road business |
25 |
| district was the first to thrive in the early community; and
|
26 |
| WHEREAS, The Village of Hillside is a home rule unit of |
27 |
| government that is proud of the relationships it maintains with |
28 |
| the business community; the Village offers residents many |
29 |
| opportunities throughout the community, whether it is for |
30 |
| education, recreation, commerce, or location; and
