| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
2 |
| WHEREAS, It is the distinct privilege of the members of the |
3 |
| House of Representatives to recognize milestones in the lives |
4 |
| of citizens of the State; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Annie May was born on June 20, 1904, to Samuel and |
6 |
| Samira Arzona "Zonie" Hackney Wood; she was the oldest of five |
7 |
| children, sister to three sisters and one brother; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, She graduated in 1923 from Eastern Illinois Normal |
9 |
| School, now Eastern Illinois University, and taught in one-room |
10 |
| schools throughout the Martinsville area until she married; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, May married Ernest M. Nickles in 1933; together |
12 |
| they had three children: Marilyn was born in 1934; Carroll was |
13 |
| born in 1936 and died in 1949; and Dale was born in 1943; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Nickles returned to work after her children |
15 |
| were grown, working as a cook in area nursing homes, including |
16 |
| Burnsides in Marshall, Heartland in Casey, and Birchwood in |
17 |
| Casey; she lived alone until the fall of 2003, when she moved |
18 |
| to California to live with her daughter; she still has a home |
19 |
| in Martinsville and returns there every summer; and
|
20 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Nickles has two surviving grandchildren, |
21 |
| Kyle Nickles and Diane Sasada, and two that are deceased; she |
22 |
| has five great-grandchildren, Kathrine, Michael, Kyle, and |
23 |
| Shayla Nickles, and Ryan Sasada; therefore, be it
|
24 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
25 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
26 |
| we honor May Nickles on reaching the distinguished age of 100 |
27 |
| years; and be it further
|
