| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
2 |
| WHEREAS, Representative Monique D. Davis and the members of |
3 |
| the House of Representatives are pleased to honor Robert Lee |
4 |
| Gay, Jr.; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Gay valiantly served his country as a member |
6 |
| of the U.S. Navy during World War II; his father, Robert, Sr., |
7 |
| is a World War I vet, and his son, Bryan, served in Desert |
8 |
| Storm; all three of his brothers, William, Henry, and Mervin |
9 |
| also served our country at war; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Gay worked for the Chicago Fire Department for |
11 |
| more than 20 years; although he has retired, he still drives to |
12 |
| Engine Company 115 seven days a week to help boost morale; long |
13 |
| after he retired, he received the Chicago Fire Department |
14 |
| Citizen Recognition Award for pulling a man from a burning car |
15 |
| and saving his life; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, He played the bugle in the Chicago Fire Department |
17 |
| Band for 20 years; today, he plays taps at memorial services to |
18 |
| honor fallen friends, fire, police, and war veterans; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Gay is the first African-American elected as |
20 |
| commander to the American Legion Fireman's post #667, and he |
21 |
| currently serves as a member; therefore, be it
|
22 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
23 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
24 |
| we honor Robert Lee Gay, Jr., for living a life full of |
25 |
| patriotic unsung heroism; and be it further
|
26 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
27 |
| presented to Mr. Gay as an expression of our respect and |
28 |
| esteem.
