| WHEREAS, The Mount Vernon Township High School (MVTHS) |

| Sports Hall of Fame will hold its inaugural banquet on February |
4 |
| 5, 2005; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, The banquet kicks off the Centennial Year |
6 |
| Celebration at MVTHS; other events are slated for the school |
7 |
| this spring and the celebration concludes with an all-class |
8 |
| reunion in June; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, The Sports Hall of Fame was started during the |
10 |
| summer of 2004 as a partnership between MVTHS and the Mount |
11 |
| Vernon Register-News; and
|
12 |
| WHEREAS, Register-News managing editor Jeremy Hall served |
13 |
| as chairman of the Steering Committee, a group that also |
14 |
| included MVTHS Athletic Director Doug Creel, Fred Deichman, |
15 |
| Alan Estes, David Farley, Jeff Haarmann, Kevin Martin, Scott |
16 |
| Tickner, and Rob Wielt; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, The Steering Committee appointed a Selection |
18 |
| Committee, and a group of six individuals and two teams were |
19 |
| chosen to comprise the inaugural class; the 2005 inductees into |
20 |
| the MVTHS Sports Hall of Fame are: Coach Stanley Changnon, Max |
21 |
| Hooper, Walt Moore, Walt Kirk, Jr., Kent Williams, and Albert |
22 |
| Avant; the teams are the 1949-50 and 1953-54 boys basketball |
23 |
| teams; and
|
24 |
| WHEREAS, The MVTHS Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony |
25 |
| pays tribute to the individuals and teams who have |
26 |
| distinguished themselves by excellence in performance and |
27 |
| achievement; it also recognizes the importance of sports and |
28 |
| the significant contributions of coaches, athletes, and teams |
29 |
| to our culture; the inspiration they give to their community of |
30 |
| fans is inestimable; and
