| HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The Buffalo Grove Fire Department, established in |
3 |
| 1981, is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2006; and
|
4 |
| WHEREAS, Until its establishment, the Village had been |
5 |
| jointly protected by the Wheeling, Long Grove, and Vernon Fire |
6 |
| Protection Districts; in 1980, voters approved a referendum |
7 |
| creating the fire department; the nucleus was to be the Buffalo |
8 |
| Grove Fire Department Inc., which provided fire protection and |
9 |
| paramedic service to the Cook County portion of Buffalo Grove |
10 |
| under contract with the Wheeling Fire Protection District; a |
11 |
| new fire station was built on Busch Road, now Deerfield |
12 |
| Parkway, to protect the Lake County portion of Buffalo Grove; |
13 |
| the Department continues to grow; there are now 67 employees |
14 |
| and an additional fire station; and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Fire Chief Tim Sashko and |
16 |
| a professional staff of firefighters, the Buffalo Grove Fire |
17 |
| Department provides outstanding service to the community; it is |
18 |
| one of the select fire departments in the country to receive an |
19 |
| Insurance Service Office rating of Two, which reflects the |
20 |
| Department's preparedness to protect the Village from fires, |
21 |
| its high level of training, and its dedication to maintaining |
22 |
| and upgrading firefighting equipment; and
|
23 |
| WHEREAS, The Department reduces and controls fire losses in |
24 |
| the Village through a comprehensive program of public |
25 |
| education, fire suppression, and training; and
|
26 |
| WHEREAS, The Department plays an essential role in |
27 |
| emergency preparedness and Homeland Security initiatives and |
28 |
| provides specialized rescue services during hazardous |
29 |
| material, dive rescue, and technical rescue events; and
|
30 |
| WHEREAS, The Department establishes relationships with |
