| HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, On December 7, 1941, the Japanese attacked Pearl |
3 |
| Harbor and many innocent and brave civilians and soldiers lost |
4 |
| their lives, their families, and their community; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, The citizens of this State have historically paid |
6 |
| homage to those survivors and victims of World War II fighting; |
7 |
| and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, It is befitting that the State of Illinois honor |
9 |
| and respect the brave men and women who withstood the horrific |
10 |
| attack; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, The designation of a portion of U.S. Route 66 as |
12 |
| the Pearl Harbor Memorial Highway is an appropriate |
13 |
| acknowledgment of the courage of those survivors; therefore, be |
14 |
| it
|
15 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
16 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE |
17 |
| SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that the portion of U.S. Route 66 |
18 |
| running from the corner of Ninth Street and Peoria Road in |
19 |
| Springfield to Fifth Street in Lincoln be designated as the |
20 |
| Pearl Harbor Memorial Highway in recognition and honor of the |
21 |
| exemplary way the survivors of the worst military attack on |
22 |
| American shores faced such a crisis; and be it further |
23 |
| RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation |
24 |
| is requested to
erect at suitable locations, consistent with |
25 |
| State regulations, appropriate plaques or signs giving notice |
26 |
| of the name; and be it further
|
27 |
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be delivered to |
28 |
| the Secretary of the Illinois Department of Transportation.
