| AN ACT concerning local government.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Township Code is amended by changing Section |
5 |
| 30-140 as follows:
|

| (60 ILCS 1/30-140)
|

| Sec. 30-140. Regulation of certain occupations. In |
8 |
| counties with a
population of less than 3,000,000, the
the |
9 |
| electors may regulate hawkers, peddlers,
pawnbrokers, |
10 |
| itinerant merchants, and transient vendors of merchandise. The
|
11 |
| township board in those counties may require that any such |
12 |
| person register his
or her name and the name of any firm he or |
13 |
| she represents with the township
clerk and may make reasonable |
14 |
| restrictions of the hours during which he or she
may engage in |
15 |
| door-to-door solicitation. The township board in those |
16 |
| counties
also may prohibit the activities of any categories of |
17 |
| persons as it determines
to be in the best interest of township |
18 |
| residents. Any regulation under this
Section shall not apply |
19 |
| within the boundaries of a city, village, or
incorporated town. |
