Amends the State Commemorative Dates Act. Designates September 1 of each year as American Indian Heritage Day to be observed throughout the State as a day to honor the rich history, culture, and heritage of American Indians.

| AN ACT concerning State government.

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|

| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The State Commemorative Dates Act is amended by |
5 |
| adding Section 68 as follows: |
6 |
| (5 ILCS 490/68 new) |
7 |
| Sec. 68. American Indian Heritage Day. September 1 of each |
8 |
| year is designated as American Indian Heritage Day to be |
9 |
| observed throughout the State as a day to honor the rich |
10 |
| history, culture, and heritage of American Indians.
