| AN ACT concerning education.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|

| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing Sections |
| 5 |
| 10-22.10a and 34-18.12 as follows:
|

| Sec. 10-22.10a. Inspection for drugs; drug testing.

| (a) School boards are empowered to
adopt a policy to |
| 9 |
| authorize school officials to request the assistance of
law |
| 10 |
| enforcement officials for the purpose of conducting reasonable |
| 11 |
| searches
of school grounds and lockers for illegal drugs, |
| 12 |
| including searches
conducted through the use of specially |
| 13 |
| trained dogs.

| 14 |
| (b) A school board may require a student who participates |
| 15 |
| in a school-sponsored or school-supported athletic or |
| 16 |
| extra-curricular activity to submit to a drug test as a |
| 17 |
| condition of participation.
