1     AN ACT concerning criminal law.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Criminal Code of 1961 is amended by adding
5 Section 16-22 as follows:
 
6     (720 ILCS 5/16-22 new)
7     Sec. 16-22. Tampering with a security, fire, or life safety
8 system.
9     (a) A person commits the offense of tampering with a
10 security, fire, or life safety system when he or she knowingly
11 damages, sabotages, destroys, or causes a permanent or
12 temporary malfunction in any physical or electronic security,
13 fire, or life safety system or any component part of any of
14 those systems including, but not limited to, card readers,
15 magnetic stripe readers, Wiegand card readers, smart card
16 readers, proximity card readers, digital keypads, keypad
17 access controls, digital locks, electromagnetic locks,
18 electric strikes, electronic exit hardware, exit alarm
19 systems, delayed egress systems, biometric access control
20 equipment, intrusion detection systems and sensors, burglar
21 alarm systems, wireless burglar alarms, silent alarms, duress
22 alarms, hold-up alarms, glass break detectors, motion
23 detectors, seismic detectors, glass shock sensors, magnetic
24 contacts, closed circuit television (CCTV), security cameras,
25 digital cameras, dome cameras, covert cameras, spy cameras,
26 hidden cameras, wireless cameras, network cameras, IP
27 addressable cameras, CCTV camera lenses, video cassette
28 recorders, CCTV monitors, CCTV consoles, CCTV housings and
29 enclosures, CCTV pan-and-tilt devices, CCTV transmission and
30 signal equipment, wireless video transmitters, wireless video
31 receivers, radio frequency (RF) or microwave components, or
32 both, infrared illuminators, video motion detectors, video

16     (b) Sentence. A violation of this Section is a Class 4
17 felony.
