| AN ACT concerning safety.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|

| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the |
5 |
| Arsenic in School Playgrounds Act.
|
6 |
| Section 5. Purpose. The General Assembly finds that wooden |
7 |
| playground equipment in this State is often treated with the |
8 |
| pesticide chromated copper arsenate, which acts as a chemical |
9 |
| preservative that protects wood from rotting due to insects and |
10 |
| microbial agents, and that the children of this State may be |
11 |
| exposed to the arsenic in chromated copper arsenate when the |
12 |
| children play on playground equipment treated with this |
13 |
| compound. |

| Section 10. New playground equipment. On and after January |
15 |
| 1, 2006 no unit of local government or school district within |
16 |
| this State shall construct or install any new playground |
17 |
| equipment treated or containing the pesticide chromated copper |
18 |
| arsenate.
