Amends the Forest Preserve Zoological Parks Act. Provides that, in a forest preserve district located in a county with a population in excess of 140,000 but less than 200,000 and contiguous to the Mississippi River, the rate of an an annual tax for certain purposes concerning the construction, maintenance, and security of a zoological park shall not exceed 0.06% (now, the rate shall not exceed .01%)

| AN ACT concerning local government.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 |
| Section 5. The Forest Preserve Zoological Parks Act is |
5 |
| amended by changing Section 2 as follows:
|
6 |

| Sec. 2. For the purpose of constructing and maintaining and |
8 |
| caring
for any such zoological park and the buildings and |
9 |
| grounds thereof and
of securing and displaying zoological |
10 |
| collections thereon the corporate
authorities of any forest |
11 |
| preserve district containing a population of
150,000 or more |
12 |
| but less than 3,000,000 are authorized to levy annually
a tax |
13 |
| of not to exceed .0058% of value as equalized or assessed by |
14 |
| the
Department of Revenue, upon all the taxable property in the |
15 |
| district;
provided however, in a forest preserve district |
16 |
| located in a county with a
population in excess of 140,000 but |
17 |
| less than 200,000 and
contiguous to the
Mississippi River, the |
18 |
| annual tax may be at a rate not to exceed 0.06%
.01% .
This tax |
19 |
| shall be levied and collected in the same manner
as the general |
20 |
| taxes of the forest preserve district and shall be in
addition |
21 |
| to the maximum of all other taxes and tax rates which the
|
22 |
| district is now or may hereafter be authorized to levy upon the
|
23 |
| aggregate valuation of all taxable property within the district |
24 |
| and
shall be exclusive of and in addition to the maximum amount |
25 |
| and rate of
taxes the district is now or may hereafter be |
26 |
| authorized to levy for
general purposes under Section 13 of "An |
27 |
| Act to provide for the creation
and management of forest |
28 |
| preserve districts and repealing certain Acts
therein named", |
29 |
| approved June 27, 1913, as amended, or under any other
law |
30 |
| which may limit the amount of tax which the district may levy |
31 |
| for
general purposes. The proceeds of the tax herein authorized |
32 |
| shall be kept
as a separate fund.
