Illinois General Assembly - Bill Status for HB 4307

Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that any person cited by an officer of the Illinois State Police for violating a provision restricting vehicular speed, if convicted of that violation, shall, in addition to any other fine, fee, or penalty, pay a $5 fee to be deposited into the State Police Vehicle Fund. Makes corresponding changes in the Clerks of Courts Act.

Deletes everything. Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code, the Clerks of Courts Act, and the Unified Code of Corrections. Increases to $85 the minimum total amount that must be paid by any person convicted of any traffic violation other than a violation of the seat safety belt requirement. Increases to $55 the minimum total amount that must be paid by a person convicted of a seat belt violation. Provides that $10 of the amount collected for any violation shall be disbursed to the law enforcement agency that arrested the violator, to be used to purchase, equip, and maintain police vehicles. Provides that any Illinois resident possessing a valid driver's license who is arrested for a traffic violation has the option of being taken before a court without unnecessary delay or of signing a written promise to comply with the terms of the traffic citation. Provides that the Secretary of State shall suspend the person's driving privileges upon notification by the clerk of the court that the person has failed to comply as promised. Amends the State Finance Act. Provides that, through fiscal year 2007, no moneys may be transferred from the State Police Vehicle Fund to the General Revenue Fund.
