Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Election Code. Makes a technical change in a Section concerning the short title.

House Amendment No. 1
Deletes reference to:
10 ILCS 5/1-1
Adds reference to:
65 ILCS 5/3.1-10-50

Deletes everything after the enacting clause. Amends the Illinois Municipal Code. Provides that, in a municipality under 500,000, the election of an acting mayor or president does not create a vacancy in the original office of the person on the city council or as a trustee, unless the person resigns. If the acting mayor or president resigns from the original office, then there is a vacancy in that original office and the acting mayor or president shall vote and have veto power as provided by law for a mayor or president. If the acting mayor or president does not resign from the original office, then he or she may vote as holder of the original office and not have veto power and shall return to the original office for the remainder of the term upon election of a mayor or president. Effective January 1, 2006.
